Edinburgh Spotlight informs us that the Nelson Monument has reached the semi finals of the National Lottery Award, an annual campaign to find the UK’s favourite lottery funded projects. In The Heritage class of the awards, this Monument is the only Scottish project included, also, the only Edinburgh based project in the campaign as a whole.

In 2008 receipt of a £50,000 Heritage Lottery Fund grant  allowed restoration work to be done on the Nelson Monument and a new exhibition space to be installed. In addition, the famous Time Ball –  used to signal to shipping in the Forth – has been restored to full working order.
