Consultants appointed for the Felixstowe Sea Front Gardens Heritage Lottery Project

The possible £2 million project to restore the seafront gardens at Felixstowe to their former glory has led to the appointment of another firm of consultants. Lanarca Ltd have a brief of suggesting “inventive ideas” with public consultation to identify how the community would like to see the gardens restored.

The project, announced last year, has already benefited from a grant of £150,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund, to develop the proposals. Exciting attractions would include: A visitors’ centre, with history of the gardens, an open air performance facility, adventure play area and cliff top lift to the Spa Pavilion theatre located below.

All the research and ideas so far are under review; Lanarca have been briefed to focus on ensuring the views of local folk are central to new designs and ideas.

Mary Neale, of the Suffolk Coastal Cabinet said; “The HLF second round deadline for submitting proposals is February 2011; between now and then, we will consult with residents,  to establish ideas for designs, and features to attract visitors to the sea front gardens.”

“Lanarca is very experienced in similar projects.  I am confident that its team will produce some very inventive ideas, exciting both local residents and visitors, in consultation with the local community.”

Rachael McCormack, a director of Lanarca, said “We are looking forward to working with local residents and visitors to the sea front gardens to establish their priorities in the restoration task.”
