Lottery Funding for Sheffield Park Project
Big Lottery Fund Awards £450K To Sheffield Park Project
The Big Lottery Fund has awarded £450,000 to a community project in Sheffield, to develop a local park.
The money was granted from the Community Spaces programme, after owners of the Millennium Park, The Heeley Development Trust, made a successful application. The Community Spaces programme allocates grants to local groups, in order to improve green spaces and parks, for the benefit of the community.
Andy Jackson, chief executive of Heeley Trust said ”We liaised with the community, and put forward their suggestions. The money will fund a raised mountain bike trail, playground and community orchards .”
“We are committed in the long term to maintaining the park, by using solar panelled light posts, also improving recycling and compost facilities.”
The grant received by the Heeley Trust, was the highest individual grant available from the £50m Lottery fund, which has additionally awarded nearly 250 grants across the country, made up of small and medium size grants.
Thom White Millennium Park Development Manager said, “Holding on to green spaces is essential. With a National increase in obesity, caused largely by people not exercising, open spaces like the Millennium Park, offer the community an area to use in order to increase their fitness level.”
