Lost to a Good Cause

A Kirklees National Lottery winner has forfeited their £224,000 prize, after failing to claim within the allotted 180 day time period, which ended on Thursday 18th March at 17:30 hours. A winning ticket holder has 180 days, starting with the day of the draw, in which to claim their prize. Any winning ticket holder should therefore contact the National Lottery Claim Line on: 0845 9100000, within this 180 day time limit.

Despite Lottery officials making exhaustive investigations to track down the whereabouts of the £224,000+ prize winner, who bought their ticket in Kirklees, no-one could be traced.

The prize, which was won after the winner matched five numbers along with the bonus ball in the September 19th 2009 draw, will now be added to the Good Cause fund, along with other unclaimed prizes.

A National Lottery spokesperson said, “Unfortunately, the winning ticket holder did not claim their prize within the allotted time period, and so has now forfeited this substantial amount of money.”

“Despite our best endeavours to locate the ticket holder, we were unable to. It is really unfortunate that they have lost out; however, there is one winner, which is the Nation.”

So this unclaimed prize money will go to augment the Good Causes Fund, which is now standing at £24 billion. Over the last 15 years this has contributed to some of the largest civic regeneration projects since the 19th Century.

Yet again a very sad case, and you can hardly believe that someone would buy a Lottery ticket and not check it.  But it happens over and over again that someone loses a ticket, throws it out accidentally, or just forgets they bought it.

Of course, had the ticket-holder been playing in a VWD Lottery Syndicate, they would have been notified, and the prize money sent securely to their bank within days.
