Israeli Lottery Shock As Same Winning Numbers Drawn
At odds of one in four trillion, the on 16th October 2010 the Israeli Lottery draw numbers were exactly the same as those drawn three weeks ago.
Amazed viewers watched on live television when the six winning numbers turned out to be the exact reverse order of the winning numbers some three weeks earlier. The winning numbers were 36, 33, 32, 26, 14, 13; last Saturday’s draw differed only by having an extra “strong” bonus ball.
Israel’s National Lottery Authority has checked the results several times, after receiving a flood of calls from viewers suspecting the draw was rigged.
In fact, how ever unlikely it is, on any given week, any set of numbers has the same chance of being drawn, regardless of when, or if ever, that set was last drawn. Dr Chaim Melamed, lottery statistics expert said, “We are in the business of luck, in which chance and probabilities make anything is possible, even the rare and infrequent.”
Three fortunate winners in last weekend’s draw, correctly guessed all seven numbers to win over £700,000. Given the propensity of some ticket buyers to stick with the same numbers week to week, it is possible that previous winners could even have won again.
Israeli Lottery officials were quoted as being aware of other incidences around the world where the jackpot prize has been won more than once by the same person, yet they had never before experienced an exact six number match of winning numbers.
