BIG Grant Enables New Village Hall For Lincolnshire Villagers
The Brant Broughton and Stragglethorpe Village Hall project, has been granted a good causes award of £50,000, from the Big Lottery Fund (BIG). Villagers will now be able to benefit from this new Village Hall, to replace the existing temporary First World War building, erected in 1921 by the Royal Air Force. The award was made available from BIG’s Reaching Communities programme, which is focused on assisting communities most in need, enabling them to build stronger communities.
Of the various options considered, the most attractive is to build the new Village Hall by the side of the current 1921 building. This will then be demolished, and replaced with a “grass creep” car park, which will blend in with the village green. The new Village Hall is expected to be ready for use in Summer 2011.
Several different groups, providing essential services to the local folk, use the Village Hall. These include a weekly GP surgery, ensuring senior folk have convenient access to medical care, which would otherwise present them with a five mile journey for an appointment. Disabled children from the residential school next door, will benefit from a better training venue, also one to hold their events. Other groups who will continue to use the Village Hall, include fitness groups, youth clubs, along with a variety of social events.
John Japp, Chairman of the Replacement Committee said: “This grant from the BIG Lottery Fund will enable us to provide the community with a really useful new Village Hall, before the existing building becomes unfit for use. Naturally, it will continue to be used for all of the current social activities in the village, including youth activities, coffee mornings, evening classes and parties, etc. Had it not been for this generous grant, a new Village Hall would not have been possible. We are deeply grateful to the Big Lottery Fund, for this generous grant, which will sustain the social integration of the community, for many years to come.”
Claire Tasker, villager and editor of Sandbeck Magazine for the area said: “Hardly a month goes by, without mention in the magazine of various events being held at Brant Broughton Village Hall, which is the heart of the community. This new Village Hall will enable us to continue to host activities enjoyed since way back into the last century, in addition to new types of activities. Reflecting upon the decline in general of village facilities, the prospect of a new Village Hall is a project to uplift the morale of the villagers.”
Mick McGrath, East Midlands Head of Region at the Big Lottery Fund said: “The Village Committee has given careful consideration to retaining services and events during the re~building project, ensuring that the villagers will have continued access, without the need to travel to other communities during the construction programme. We look forward to receiving further Reaching Communities applications, from other villagers in Lincolnshire.
